With financial support from the Regional Council of R\u00e9union and the Fondation du Patrimoine, the ruins of the Bel Air Chapel and their lush green surroundings have been restored to pay tribute to the formerly enslaved people and indentured laborers who contributed to the estate\u2019s prosperity from 1850 to 1878, as well as to the extraordinary figure of Camille Jurien de la Gravi\u00e8re, Bel Air\u2019s unconventional owner during that period.<\/p>\n

Continue your tour with a visit to the Payet & Rivi\u00e8re artisanal sugar shack and distillery, and taste the traditional Bonbon Galab\u00e9 and R\u00e9union\u2019s very first estate-produced rums.<\/p>\n
